This research is not all that illuminating – in fact it pretty much confirms the bleeding obvious.

Still, we're all waiting to see how Twitter will be monetised.

The question is how? It can't go on not making money for ever – the investors will be expecting their money back at some point.

I'd pay a monthly fee (as long as it's reasonable) to use Twitter. It's brought me a lot of benefits in the 6 or 7 months that I've been using it seriously.

But would a monthly fee turn a lot of people off? Possibly.

And, if it did, would the effectiveness Twitter's shown for me be reduced? Again, possibly.

Maybe ads?

Or maybe a fee for commercial/business accounts?

Who knows what they're thinking…

But it does seem to be here to stay, so it will get monetised – somehow, someday.
