However, someone who's broadcasting to millions, as Oprah Winfrey is, has a responsibility to undertake thorough research before pronouncing something as fact.
To fail to do so, as she appears to have done in these examples, is a dereliction of duty.
I don't often watch programs like Oprah, but when I do I'm always disturbed at how the hosts attempt to impose their values on the audience – both the studio and the 'at home' audiences.
What gives them a moral right to do that?
But possibly more disturbing is the way millions are prepared to take the word of someone like Oprah without questioning it.
In fact that's truly scary.
