Can Jenson Do It In Germany?

Finally – an F1 article that actually talks about racing, instead of the ridiculous goings-on with the FIA.

Can Button win at the  Nurburgring this weekend?

I hope so. I’ve been a Button fan for a long time. He’s had a tough few years with terrible cars but now, with a competitive car, he’s demonstrating and proving his talent.

People have started comparing him to Schumacher, which is a little premature to say the least.

Jenson needs to get several world titles under his belt before those types of comparisons can be made.

There’s no questioning his driving talent and, as I said earlier, he’s now finally getting the chance to prove it.

But Schumacher was great in two other areas:

  1. Developing the car
  2. Driving and/or leading his team

He was also better at getting more out of a bad car (Ferrari’s 2005 car, for example) than Button appeared to be.

That’s a relatively easy comparison to make given that they both had Barrichello as a team mate and (if I remember correctly) with Ferrari’s poor 2005 car Schumacher was demonstrably better than Barrichello whereas with the bad Hondas of the last few years Button and Barrichello were much closer.

In a good car Button is proving to be better than Barrichello, and this is especially interesting because there are no team orders at Brawn, which there definitely were at Ferrari.

Anyway – let’s hope for a good race this weekend and forget the politics for a while.

Here’s a Nurburgring preview focusing on Brawn and Red Bull.
